About Me
PROFESSIONALLY: As a performer my work has been in ACTING and SINGING, but I also have substantial credit as a DIRECTOR, PRODUCER, CONDUCTOR and work in some films. I uploaded a recent short film, “The Stage” - (May 2011), produced by Taylor University. I was asked to take part in this Spring 2011 film, based on work I did for the universities film program in last years production of "Re-launch", which is also in my video portfolio here at Explore Talent. My theatrical background includes set design, set building, prop acquisition and construction, costuming, script editing, rewriting, orchestra rehearsal/conducting, vocal coaching and vocal maintenance of singers during a performance run, as well as other behind the scenes preparation. As a musician/singer/vocal coach I am Owner / Instructor of PETERSON STUDIO OF VOICE. (Lafayette, Indiana and Frankfort, Indiana). My degree in Choral/Vocal music is from Indiana University, where I studied with distinguished professor of voice Margaret Harshaw and Marcia Baldwin (both were rostered with the Metropolitan Opera, NY). Some of my students have taken state and national awards in voice and acting. In 2010, to brush up on my vocal work and vocal teaching, I studied with Roy Samuelsen, an internationally known operatic bass/baritone who retired from the Indiana University voice faculty. I believe that those who teach, should be able to DO, and should continue to learn and work in their music and theatrical fields. Besides being a singer, actor and stage director with experience as a choral conductor and a number of years filling these various roles in summer stock as an orchestral conductor, I spent seven years as a zone chairman for the INDIANA CHORAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION as the ALL STATE CHOIR ZONE CHAIRMAN (zone 3B - 25 school districts). Along with the auditioning responsibility, I conducted the rehearsals leading up to state performances in Indianapolis for the mixed choir from those who auditioned in the zone. My wife, owner and instructor of PETERSON STUDIO OF DANCE, has joined me in judging various county fair talent shows in Central Indiana, and some JUNIOR MISS STATE FINALS over the years, because we are both committed to education, coaching and talent of all ages. I am slated to take part in a Spec Commercial for the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, Inc. on July 2nd, 2011, the date of my most recent update of my talent information and resume here on ExploreTalent.com.

ADDITIONALLY: I am a voice coach and talent scout with TALENT FUSION AGENCY in Indianapolis. We are always seeking models, actors, singers, dancers and performers of all ages, while making contacts across the nation in various markets. As such, we do not place talent locally, but instead provide talent for national showcases in which directors and producers from TV, film, recording, Broadway and other performance venues come to audition the talent pool we, and other agencies like ours, bring to each 4 day showcase. You could think of us as providing a multi-course buffet of talent for the casting directors and producers who come to each showcase. In this way, we provide the broadest market in which to display or exhibit your talent or talents.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

TALENT FUSION is affiliated with Global Stars Network, and has a reputation of providing the participating cadre of casting directors and upper level entertainment professionals in attendance from around the world with the best prepared and trained talent for fashion/commercial runway, film, television, print photography modeling, recording executives with actors, models, singers and dancers of all ages and types. In our one year association, we have already received the Agency of the Year Award twice (November 2010 and May 2011) for the talent we’ve introduced to the visiting agents, casting directors and producers from around the globe who attend the four day auditions cycles, which recently have been 4 days aboard cruise ships out of Tampa, FLA or Los Angeles, CA which have chartered salons and stage where the auditions are nearly continuous for registered talent.

VOCAL PERFORMANCE and VOCAL METHOD:
My music degree and studies include singing and coaching singers in Italian, French, German, English of course, and dialects. My personal resume includes musical theater, opera (performing with the Indianapolis Opera from 1998 through 2004), pop, jazz, musical theater, C&W, gospel, and other contemporary styles. The method I teach has been proven to protect the voice, give greater power to projection, and increase the years of performing for a singer. Most of my directing has been for stage, but my acting includes voice over work, character voices, and film with a good deal of experience on the stage myself. In my bag of tricks, I have been a children's theater director and stage presence coach for ages 9 and up. Several of my students have performed regionally in musical theater, and in showcases, receiving high praise, success and recognition.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

GARCIA METHOD OF VOICE: I am an instructor in the Garcia method of voice, which had it's beginning with Manuel Garcia 1775 - 1832,(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_Garcia(tenor) continued through his son, also Manuel Garcia although my line of instruction came through his daughter Pauline Viardot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pauline_Viardot) and through Anne Eugenie Schoen-Rene who was with Julliard School of Music. Through Viardot and Schoen-Rene, the techniques were passed to a multitude of operatic stars of the last century, including Margaret Harshaw who sang more Wagnerian Opera roles from Contralto through Soprano than any other female opera singer in history. Some histories claim her beginnings as a mezzo, but her first role at the Met was as the contralto Norn in Ring des Nibelungen. For more information on her career and thoughts on singing as well as acting, you can peruse an interview of her from 1994. This grand lady of the old Metropolitan Opera, with a fierce intensity to pass the technique to students passed away in 1997. I count myself lucky to be one of only two education majors Miss Harshaw ever accepted into her voice studio during her tenure at Indiana University. For the interview with broadcaster Bruce Duffie - see// http://www.bruceduffie.com/harshaw.html

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
OTHER PERSONAL EDUCATIONAL ENDEAVORS / JAPANESE LANGUAGE: I live in Indiana and taught Japanese as a day job, along with my vocal coaching in the evenings, from 1995-2010, in a district where I was the corporation department chair of world languages. Being highly energetic, during that time I was teaching Japanese, I served on the board of directors for the National Council of Japanese Language Teachers, also serving one year as the president of that organization. I learned Japanese when I lived n Japan for 2 years as a missionary. I shifted gears back to my original degree of voice and performing by taking over a choral / vocal program in a Lafayette, Indiana school district for the 2010-2011 school year. I still teach Japanese as contracted, and will be doing a one week workshop for youth ages 8-18 for Purdue Extension Services in Frankfort, Indiana in June 2011.

Who I'd Like to Meet
I am completely open to meeting just about anyone from any walk of life. I've learned that I can always add something to my bag of acting tricks from observing and meeting. For a bit broader list, you can check my interests. As for professionals in the business.... and only writing about American film actors....I have a strong appreciation of Johnny Depp's ability to field any character with a totally different persona. I feel the same for Meryl Streep in her range from Julia Childs to her role in Mamma Mia. However, my lists of actors and singers who inspire me in a variety of ways would get too lengthy and take more time to go through than does my RESUME or my ABOUT ME segment above.

Michael J. Peterson I haven't had much time to get on idm since the school year started, but I've been following many of you in fits and spurts either through facebook connections or like tonight when I've had a few minutes to see how many of you are doing. Keep up the good work! Good work on the contests, tv shows, uploads, piano solos, and for being actively engaged in the arts, while remaining personable and giving of yourselves to each other. I'm ready for a spring break and a chance to recharge some of my batteries. I'm always so blessed from being around and staying connected with people who have the dream. The band director in our school recently posted a thought which I added to my facebook page.

Earth without 'art' is just "Eh". Thank you all for adding to the art! I am hopeful for you all.

These short snippets of songs aren't always recorded in the best quality, and a few could have been balanced better between the voice track and karaoke. However, at the time they were done a bit more than a year ago, it was what I had to work with. These demonstrate my cross over interest in various musical genres, as well as the styles of music I often coach with some of my private students and choirs.

HA ha. Thank you Travis. I admire Jack Nicholson's rendition very much, but would not ever want to copy his style. The world only needs one Jack. I am most happy to just be me. I'm glad you appreciated it. If you get a chance, I would also appreciate a rating from you. Thanks again!

No problem at all Damarys. Sorry I've been out of the loop for so long. Once I start teaching, I get pretty involved. With teaching every day, and then coaching private students two nights of the week, as well as preparing for a general music class I've been a very busy puppy. I didn't catch the message you left for me the last time I was on idm. Sorry that it has taken so looooooong for me to assure you that it has been my honor and pleasure to view your work. I would love to personally meet each and everyone of you with whom I've shared messages and watched in your auditions. Ah... if I only was extremely wealthy and could travel the world, or if we all were miraculously matched up in a film... like, Oh I don't know.... I DANCE MACHINE. Wouldn't that be fun! Good luck on all your future endeavors... and until the next time I stay up late to catch up on messages on IDM.... ta ta for now.
